HISTORY
The School Partnerships in Challenge Education (SPICE) Program began in the Fall of 2002 as a collaborative venture between the Metropolitan District of Lawrence Township and the districts served by the Hamilton Boone Madison Special Services Cooperative. These districts include Carmel-Clay, Frankton-Lapel, Hamilton Heights, Hamilton Southeastern, Noblesville, Marion Adams and Westfield-Washington
The Challenge and Environmental Education Program (CEE Program) in Lawrence Township began in 1997. The Challenge Education Program through the Hamilton Boone Madison Special Services Cooperative (HBM Challenge) began in 1998. Both programs were granted money from the State Department of Special Education. The grant money was used to construct the challenge/ropes courses and for the employment of a course manager. The challenge courses were constructed by ACCT qualified builders; Mr. James A. Leslie, Adventure Program Coordinator for Delaware-Blackford Special Services Cooperative and Mr. Jim Liggit of Ropes Course Inc., Allegan, Michigan.
In June 2008, marks the end of the partnership with Hamilton Boone Madison Special Services and the program ownership is with the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township and the SPICE Program. An agreement between each party has been established and a 2 year transition to self sustainability is in motion.
The SPICE Program values its partnership with MSD of Lawrence Township and all of central Indiana schools, businesses and communities. The program continues to maintain a program of excellence and exceed all industry standards.
